Catamaran Refresher lessons - get ready for checkout
The Catamaran Refresher series consist of 10 hours of instruction led by a Cansail-certified instructor from MacSailing, over three days of lessons:
- Mondays: 18:00 - 21:00 (3 hours)
- Thursdays: 18:00 - 21:00 (3 hours)
- Saturdays: 10:00-14:00 pm (4 hrs)

Goals
The goal is to get you ready to check out Locarno recreational Catamarans Level 1 Nacra 500 and 570 as a Skipper on your own. The recreational Catamaran Level 1 Refresher lessons focus on safety, as well as efficient sailing and seamanship. During this 10 hours, you will review and practice your recreational catamaran sailing techniques, gybing and tacking strategies, recommended launching, landing and rigging the Locarno way.
Nacra 500, 570 (Rec Cat Level 1) CHECKOUT
By the end of the series, you will have practiced capsizing the Nacra 500 and 570, with the guidance of our CAN Sail certified instructor. During the lessons you will have the opportunity to show your rigging, sailing and self-rescueing skills on Club Locarno catamarans. If you succeed, you will be checked out for Rec Cat Level 1 sailing.
Upon completion of the Refresher, most sailors are checked out on Recreational Catamarans Level 1.
Prerequisites
To take this course, you should have the equivalent of CANSail 3, CYA Bronze or similar experience to ~50 hours of sailing catamarans both as crew and at the helm.
This course is for sailors who have sailed catamarans before but do not feel ready yet to register for a Rigging Clinic + On Water Check out and successfully pass it without previous practice. This course will give you the time to do so, so you can confidently check out Recreational Catamarans Level 1 (no Spinnaker).
This is not a beginner course. For Beginners, we recommend our Introduction to Catamaran for Beginners lessons plus ~20 hours at the helm experience on catamaran to be able to take and make the most of this course.
Attendance at a Catamaran Level 1 rigging clinic prior to the lessons would also be helpful but not mandatory. Ideally, you will at least review the Rigging Guides and videos from our website - before attending the first class.

Location
The class will meet near the Locarno sailcraft aisle, under the white tent (you will see a table and a whiteboard).
* Please try to arrive early so lessons can start on time.
Registration
The lesson will be cancelled if no one has registered on time.
