Beginner sailing lessons cover CANSail Levels 1 and 2, and consist of 30 hours of instruction over three consecutive weeks as follows:
Your instructor will be a CanSail certified instructor.
Most of your sailing will be done on Vanguards, but you may get an opportunity to sail a Laser or Tasar if you are interested.
Learn to fly downwind! We have four catamarans and a skiff that are equipped with asymmetrical spinnakers; the objective of this course is to develop the basic skills that can be used on either monohulls or cats.
We will be learning on the Nacra 580, as it provides a stable, forgiving platform and will accommodate two sailors and an instructor.
To take this course, you must have CANSail 3, CYA Bronze or equivalent experience, and at least 20 hours as skipper on a catamaran. Attendance at a cat rigging clinic (to learn to rig the spinnaker) would also be helpful. This course consists of one three-hour session led by a Cansail-certified instructor from MacSailing. If conditions are suitable, plan to keep sailing after the lesson in order to practice what you have learned.
Intro cat lessons consist of 15 hours of instruction over two consecutive weeks as follows
Your instructor will be a CanSail certified instructor, and you will be sailing the Nacra 500 fleet.
To take this course, you must have CANSail 4, CYA Bronze or equivalent experience. We recommend 100 hours of monohull experience and 20 hours crew on catamaran.
Attendance at a Dryland Clinic for Cats is not a prerequisite, but is strongly encouraged.
Intermediate sailing lessons cover CANSAIL Levels 3, and consist of 30 hours of instruction over three consecutive weeks as follows:
Your instructor will be a CANSAIL-certified instructor from MacSailing
Most of your sailing will be done on Tasars or Lasers, and the focus will be on enhancing your skills, sailing fast and racing.
CANSAIL Levels 1 and 2 or equivalent is a prerequisite i.e. you should be a pretty confident dinghy sailor.
